These days Kazan, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, is hosting the BRICS summit. The event is being attended by 10 member countries and 28 states interested in cooperating with the group.

Heads and high-level representatives of the 10 BRICS member countries, including Russia, Iran, China, India, Brazil, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, will gather in Kazan to discuss prospects for economic cooperation. They will talk about the importance of strengthening multilateral ties and constructive engagement towards prosperity and progress based on the principles of global justice. They will also formulate a comprehensive medium- and long-term development plan for the group.

   

On Wednesday, the heads of the ten BRICS member countries will also hold a joint meeting with states interested in cooperating with the organization, known as BRICS+.

On the eve of the BRICS summit, a sherpas/sous-sherpas meeting was held in Kazan where national representatives of the BRICS countries expressed their views on the most important issues on the agenda of the BRICS group leaders. The meeting addressed issues related to global development and security from the BRICS perspective, as well as the possibility of participation of countries wishing to strengthen cooperation with the organization.

   

The BRICS Summit will be held in Kazan from the 22nd to the 24th of this month.
